Charities
Take a Challenge supports a number of charities in partnership with Project 65 the veterans charity, who support the following worthwhile charities:
Project65 was born from an idea to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day 2009. 3 years in planning, more than 200 challengers and support crew, ran from Tarrent Rushton airfield in Dorset to Portsmouth Harbour before boarding a ferry to Normandy and arriving at exactly the point and time that the heroic RAF and Airbourne Troops landed to capture and hold two of the most important tactical landmarks critical to the success of DDay landings, Horsa and Pegasus Bridge...
The capture of the two bridges near Ouistreham was codenamed Operation Deadstick... 65 years later the operation was recreated, but instead of gliders and soldiers, 198 people ran to Pegasus.
Like the D-Day operation the Run to Pegasus was a success raising in excess of £350,000 for Services Charities as well as providing a memorial for the troops who died there, this small spear head of people were the spearhead that was responsible for changing our future and our childrens future.
Today Project65 the Veterans charity lives on and many more challenges and fundraising are already planned to go ahead, including the Forces March and Forces Festival. Managed by ‘normal’ people, Project65 does an excellent job of bring the Armed Forces and Civilians together for a single cause.
